My research focuses on high-temperature phase-change energy storage materials and photovoltaic-energy storage integrated systems. For years, I have been looking for a platform to apply my laboratory findings to large-scale clean energy projects. Through Ms. Xiaoting Yan of JinHai Qiming, I learned about the Qiming Program and was eventually selected.
The matching process was impressive. Based on my experience in oil-producing countries in the Middle East, Ms. Yan recommended several renewable energy companies in Shandong, covering cutting-edge areas such as protective coatings for offshore wind turbines and battery thermal management systems. During online meetings, I had in-depth discussions with Chinese engineers on the application of high-thermal conductivity phase-change materials in energy storage systems; the precision of this technology matching far exceeded my expectations.
I chose the full-time collaboration model. The monthly advance payment of X RMB allowed me to settle comfortably in Shandong, and the substantial final payment upon project completion provides long-term motivation. More importantly, the Chinese companies demonstrated genuine willingness to collaborate; they not only needed technology but also respected the perspectives of international experts.
Ms. Xiaoting Yan showed great responsibility throughout the process, especially in clearly explaining the "one expert, one company" rule, which prevented me from taking detours. The Qiming Program is not just a career opportunity, but also a bridge for Middle Eastern expertise to shine under China's dual carbon targets.
